The Rev. Carl Kish is being honored with a retirement reception on Sunday, June 25, beginning with celebration of Mass at 11 a.m. at St. Robert Bellarmine Church in Cortland. The reception will follow from noon to 4 p.m. After 61 years as a priest in the Diocese of Youngstown, Rev. Kish is retiring on July 1. Friends and former parishioners are all invited to attend.

Rev. Kish was born in Youngstown on Sept. 23, 1936, the son of Charles and Sophie Kish, and was ordained as a priest on May 26, 1962. He served at Holy Family Parish in Poland for three years, at Immaculate Conception in Ravenna for 10 years, at St. Joseph Parish in Newton Falls for 10 years and has been pastor of St. Robert Bellarmine Parish in Cortland since 1988.

He has been active in Ministerial Associations, worked with and promoted support for youth and been involved in community outreach everywhere he has served. As a much-loved priest and friend, we welcome this opportunity to pay tribute to him for the positive impact he has in all our lives.

If you missed the Health and Safety event at University Hospitals Portage Medical Center in Ravenna, you missed a good one.

There was a wonderful turnout for walk-ups and pre-registration screenings and tests. They had all sorts of literature and handouts.

It was also great to see so many friends and neighbors. This is a great opportunity to get tests you may be thinking about that you never get around to, all at no charge.

I’ll see you at the next one.

Around Ravenna: A Ravenna resident’s family journey through Germany

- by Angie Reedy .

Planes, trains and automobiles were part of a three-week vacation. Jack Trauth of Ravenna flew to London to visit his daughter, Karrie, and her wife, Angela. He and Karrie flew to Switzerland to meet his son, Jim, his wife, Mariana, and grandson Evan. Adding to the excitement of the outing were travel by a dual-gauge railroad, a cog rail, a zip line, a funicular (a cable railroad, especially one on a mountainside, where ascending and descending cars are counterbalanced) and a vintage paddle wheel boat.
