The Auxiliary of University Hospitals Portage Medical Center in Ravenna is having its annual craft fair from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, Oct. 9 at the hospital, 6847 N. Chestnut St., Ravenna.

As most of you know, Rev. William Kraynak, pastor of Immaculate Conception, left for a well-deserved retirement on Wednesday, July 1. I-C had a huge retirement party for him and it was well attended. The I-C holds 300 people and I know it was filled to capacity.
It was a wonderful party and all of his family was there, so we got to meet most of them. The Social Committee did a wonderful job of getting this all done.
Father Kraynak was also honored at Catholic Charities Voice of Hope dinner at Les's Ristorante in Warren on May 28. These charities help serve individuals and families across six counties of the Diocese of Youngstown.
While at the party at the I-C Hall, I ran into Rose Mary and Orlando Reyes and they wanted to share information about their family. They have three children, a set of twins, Sean and Erica, and a younger son, Orlando Jr. All three reside in Ohio, Sean in Ravenna, Erica in Tallmadge and Orlando in Kent, and all three are married, Sean to Lori, Erica to Reed and Orlando to Lindsey.
Erica's husband served in the U.S. Army for 22 years, from which he retired. They have two sons, Josh and Sebastian. Josh is a student at the University of Akron, where he will be a junior in the fall. Sebastian is 15 and will be a freshman at Tallmadge High School in September.
Sean works for Walmart. His stepdaughter's children are involved in band, cheerleading and soccer.
Orlando has two daughter, Clara, 14, and Eva, 11. They are both members of both basketball and soccer teams in their community.
Every year on the second Saturday after Thanksgiving, the entire family, including uncles, aunts, cousins and guests gather at the home of their grandparents to make cannoli. Everyone is assigned a job and 120 cannoli are made on that day. The cannoli are given to family and friends every year. This is the fifth generation of Rose Mary's family that is involved in this event.
The tradition started with Rose's grandfather, Pasquale Almerico. He was a baker by trade. He arrived in New York in the early 1900s and taught his children how to make the cannoli, as well as the filling. This tradition has endured for five generations and is expected to continue for many more.
Every year, Paul Moore from City Gardener and Florist has an open house on Memorial Day. He opens his shop for coffee and doughnuts. This year, we could all sit at his lovely circa 1890 home on North Chestnut Street. Everyone had a great time watching the parade. It was a beautiful day all the way around!
