Around Edinburg: Spring sports signups interrupt the winter chill

- Cathy Klein ,

Believe it or not, it’s time to start thinking about spring sports, which means it is time for kids to sign up for baseball and softball.

Edinburg 2024 registration continues now through Feb. 15. Registration will take place online at the following link: https://www.leaguelineup.com/welcome.asp?url=edinburgbaseballandsoftball.

Visit the Southeast School Edinburg Youth Baseball and Softball Facebook page for more information including who to call with questions.

Southeast Cooperative Nursery School will hold its Open Registration for the 2024-25 school year at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 6 at the school.

They offer two classes. The Tuesday/Thursday Class is for 3- and 4-year-olds and the Monday/Wednesday/Friday Class is for 4- and 5-year-olds entering kindergarten the following year. Registration is $50 and spots are filled on a first-come, first-served basis.

Main Street Ravenna will hold its annual Winter Writing Festival on from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 17. Main Street Ravenna will host a number of workshops, a writing contest award session for Ravenna students and the Keynote David Dix Speaker, who is local author Amanda Flower this year.

Workshops will cover topics such as poetry, graphic novels, how to write mysteries, children’s books, and more. Workshops will be held in downtown businesses and buildings to bring people into the stores and to walk downtown.

For more information and to register for workshops, visit the website at www.mainstreetravenna.org.

There is a Primary Election coming up on March 19 and the Board of Elections could always use help from people in the community to be Precinct Election Officials. If you are able to help, there is a four-hour training class to attend before the day of election for which you would be compensated $20. You receive an additional $130 for working the day of the election. For more information or to sign up, contact the Board of Elections at 330-297-3511.

Check out Pettigrew Feed & Hardware Store for the Valentine’s Day Coloring Contest. It’s not only for kids, but includes adult entries as well. Pick up coloring pages at the front counter and turn them in by 2 p.m. Feb. 11. Judging will take place on Facebook and winners will be notified at 6 p.m. Feb. 12.

Don’t forget to send information to my email at CM101495@aol.com by the second Wednesday of the month to be included in the column and thank you.
