Around Edinburg: Car shows, art shows and more spring fun

Southeast Music Boosters will be hosting a car show from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday, May 25 in the high school parking lot. There will be a DJ, food, live performances from the jazz band and swing choir, vendors and trophies. All proceeds benefit all of the music students, kindergarten through 12th grade.


Ravenna’s 225th anniversary celebration will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, June 8 at 210 Park Way. Mayor Frank Seman will give a speech and proclamations, along with a meet and greet with city council members.

The event also features an anniversary cake and cupcakes, hot dog giveaway, promotional items and a time capsule.

Food sponsors include Sunshine Cupcakes and Giant Eagle. The event is open to the public and will be held in conjunction with Art on Main.


Main Street Ravenna will hold its annual Art on Main event from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, June 8 right downtown on Main Street. This is a free art and music festival featuring professional artist vendors, local student art, area food trucks and local wineries.


Books a Go Go will be participating in Art on Main featuring local author Amanda Flower, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Amanda recently presented as the keynote speaker of the Winter Writing Festival in Ravenna and is an Agatha Award winner for the first in her Emily Dickinson series, “Because I Could Not Stop for Death.”

Amanda is a USA Today best-selling author of more than 50 mystery novels. Her latest title, “To Slip the Bonds of Earth,” is a historical mystery featuring Katharine Wright, who is the sister of Orville and Wilbur Wright. Several of her titles will be available for purchase and Amanda will be happy to autograph them for you.


The summer reading program at Reed Memorial Library in Ravenna will kick off on Friday, June 7 with a Rodeo Night from 5 to 8 p.m at Ravenna City Park.

When you sign up for the Readin’ Rodeo, kids will receive a free voucher to attend the Ohio State Fair and adults will receive a $10 Ohio State Park voucher.

The night will include games, crafts, food, square dancing, hayride and a petting zoo. Stop at the library for full details.


Southeast Youth Football and Cheer Sign-ups are now through June 14. The youth program is for children in kindergarten through sixth grade. There is a $25 sibling discount. Register at www.leaguelineup.com/seyouthfb.


Congratulations to my daughter, Hannah Klein, who recently graduated Magna Cum Laude from Notre Dame College of Ohio with a degree in Emergency Management. She was part of the 100th and last graduating class of the university. Her future plans include attending the fire academy at Tri-C.

Around Edinburg: Halloween is closer than you think

Books a Go Go will have two more author events coming up, beginning with New York Times best-selling author Misty Wilson from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 18. Her newest title is “Falling Like Leaves,” which is a young-adult romance. Books signed by the author will be available for purchase.

Around Edinburg: Celebrating Ravenna’s new book store

On Aug. 30, I celebrated the Grand Opening of my bookstore in Ravenna, Books a Go Go. I could not have dreamed of a better day and cannot thank the members of the community enough for coming out to show their support. Thank you as well to the Main Street Ravenna organization and the Ravenna Area Chamber of Commerce for putting together a great Ribbon Cutting Ceremony.
