This year’s Portage County Randolph Fair runs through Aug. 25. Tickets for events are on sale at www.randolphfair.com. The fairgrounds are located at 4215 Fairground Rd.

On Aug. 14, the first Edinburg Historical Society meeting was held at Edinburg Town Hall. The organizers of the group went over some history of the township such as talking about Edinburg Lake, two different burial grounds and the fact that we have a soldier in our cemetery that received the Congressional Medal of Honor.

Participants at this meeting helped with a few beginning decisions such as membership dues. Membership dues are as follows: $15 per person or $25 per person as a charter member. Kids are free. Join us next month at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 11 at Edinburg Town Hall, located at 6856 Tallmadge Rd. Check out the Edinburg Historical Society Facebook page for updates and more upcoming information.

We Support Southeast Teachers and Support Staff held a Stuff the Bus School Supply Drive on Aug. 16 at the primary school. If you were unable to make that day or are still interested in donating supplies, Edinburg United Church will collect them on their behalf for the next two weeks. The church is located at 4081 Rock Spring Rd.

Edinburg United Church is also holding its annual apple pie sale, taking orders until Sept. 13. The pies are homemade and come unbaked and frozen for $15 each. Orders can be given to any church member, or you can call the church at 330-325-1532 and leave your name, number and the amount of pies needed.

The Southeast Middle School soccer team is holding a raffle to win Half a Hog to help support the team. Tickets are $10 each or six for $50. Contact anyone you may know on the team to get tickets; the drawing will be held Dec. 13, with two winners.

The 12th annual Sportmen’s Raffle by S.P.A.C.E. will be held this year at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 5 at the Randolph Fairgrounds. Early-bird tickets are currently on sale until Sept. 1 for $40 each that include dinner, soft drinks and entry into main raffles in addition to early-bird raffles. Tickets purchased after Sept. 1 will be $50 and will not include the early-bird raffles. Tickets can be purchased locally at Pettigrew Feed and Hardware at 6773 Tallmadge Rd. or online at https://southeastpirates.org/2024-raffle. Check out their Facebook page for more locations to purchase tickets and additional information.

Don’t forget to send information to my email at CM101495@aol.com by the second Wednesday of the month to be included in the column — and thank you.

Around Edinburg: Celebrating Ravenna’s new book store

- by Cathy Klein .

On Aug. 30, I celebrated the Grand Opening of my bookstore in Ravenna, Books a Go Go. I could not have dreamed of a better day and cannot thank the members of the community enough for coming out to show their support. Thank you as well to the Main Street Ravenna organization and the Ravenna Area Chamber of Commerce for putting together a great Ribbon Cutting Ceremony.
