Around Charlestown: Summer festivals and a sixth generation of Nethings arrives in Charlestown

The 20th Annual Charlestown Summer Festival will be here before you know it. Plan on joining in on all the fun on Saturday, Aug. 5, from 3-7 p.m. at the Charlestown Township Park located at 6477 Rock Spring Road. There will be lots of free activities and fun for the whole family.

In recognition of the 20th festival, the bungee jump and inflatables will be free this year. Also, the highlight of the grand prize raffle basket will be the use of a lodge for 20 people at an Akron Rubber Duck game along with many other gift cards! Stop by the trustee tent to purchase your raffle tickets.

Magic by Kel will perform at 4 p.m. in the pavilion. Get your face painted, a balloon character, your photo taken and more! All free! There will also be a “Show and Shine.” Bring your antique or collectable vehicle, motorcycle, tractor…oh well, you get the idea. Please have vehicles in place by 2:30 p.m. There will be food trucks to satisfy your appetites so come for the afternoon.

Dale and Helen Nething of Knapp Road had a very exciting and happy April. First, their grandson, Benjamin, married the former Margeaux Perkins of East Palestine. They are making their home in Edinburg. Ben is the son of Mary Ann and Don Nething.

The day following the wedding, great-granddaughter Virginia Jo Nething arrived. The happy parents are grandson Cory and wife Kylee Nething also of Knapp Road.

Just days later, Sawyer Dale Nething was born to Brock Nething and Jessica Matarese of Edinburg. Sawyer was welcomed home by big brothers Christopher and Parker.

These two babies are the sixth generation of Nethings living and working the family farm in Charlestown. Both Ginny and Sawyer are the grandchildren of Lori Nething and Dennis Nething, both of Knapp Rd.

Both babies and moms are well, and family focus has been directed back to three generations farming the land together. Congratulations to all the Nethings!
