Around Charlestown: Memorial Day plans and Yard Sale Day in Charlestown
- Ruth Ann Bartholomew
Charlestown Township’s Annual Memorial Day Parade and Service will be held Sunday, May 25 with the parade stepping off at 11a.m. and proceeding to the cemetery where a short service will take place. All are welcome to participate in the parade with classic cars, motorcycles, floats, ball teams, scouts, etc. keeping a patriotic theme. Children are encouraged to decorate and ride their bicycles for the chance to win a prize. No politicking is allowed.
Please arrive at the township park at 10:30 a.m. to register if you would like to participate. The service at the cemetery will memorialize those who gave their lives in service of our country for the freedoms we all enjoy. Mr. Ed Harrison will play the bagpipes. Our guest speaker will be Rev. Jim Lewis, Chaplain, Lt. Col.(Ret.), USAR, currently lead pastor at Charlestown United Methodist Church.
Charlestown United Methodist Church would like to invite you to attend worship service on Sunday May 25 beginning at 9:30 a.m. Service will end by 10:30 a.m. Just enough time to walk down to the Town Hall to get free coffee and donuts, courtesy of the church, and find a place to watch the parade. There will be plenty of parking in front and behind the church.
If you are interested in finding a quiet, outdoor place to host a birthday party or family picnic the Charlestown Township Park may fit the bill. There is a pavilion, playground and a ball field. For rental information, call Elizabeth at 330-575-3669.
