Two public hearings set for February in Ravenna

- Wendy DiAlesandro ,

Ravenna City Council is set to preside over two public hearings, one to establish commission guidelines and the other to address massage establishments.

The Feb. 18 hearing is to approve Perspectus Architecture’s guidelines for the city’s design review commission.

The Feb. 24 hearing is to alter three city ordinances, all intended to establish health spas, fitness centers and massage establishments as conditionally permitted uses in certain zoning districts.

Health spas and fitness centers are currently permitted uses in the city’s C-1 local commercial, central business and heavy commercial districts. The zoning code is currently silent on the matter of massage establishments.

Both hearings will start at 6 p.m. in city council chambers. Council Clerk Chelsea Gregor will accept related public comments until 4 p.m. the day of the meetings. Respondents may direct their remarks to chelsea.gregor@ravennaoh.gov. Please include your name and address, as well as the subject and/or legislation number. The meetings will also be livestreamed on YouTube.

Varner: Maddalena’s in Kent offers authentic food, at-home feel

The way it smelled, the way the adults chatted while you and the other kids laughed in front of a TV playing colorful cartoons. Most importantly, do you remember the food? I remember, and Mandy Yannucci, co-owner of Maddalena’s in Kent, remembers, too.
