Township roundup: Edinburg, Suffield, Atwater

- Wendy DiAlesandro

Edinburg

Edinburg Trustees are in the beginning stages of planning a new township fire station at the corner of state Route 14 and Tallmadge Road. It will replace the old fire station, which was built in the 1930s, with an addition in the late 1940s or early 1950s. The new station will be bigger and will be able to house all personnel and equipment.

Suffield

Suffield Fire Department is running a community-wide fundraiser to benefit township events and other activities. Details are on the SFD Facebook page, but we’ll pass them along here as well: In return for a donation of your choosing, you will receive an 8×10 color portrait of you or your family. Photos will be taken at the SFD on Sunday, July 25 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Please contact the SFD at 330-628-9240 for more information or to make arrangements.

In past years the fundraiser has benefited the SFD Open House, community outreach programs, the Memorial Day parade, and the Labor Day pancake breakfast.

Atwater

Need a part-time job and extra cash? Atwater trustees are looking for a person willing to clean the Town Hall after each use. Interested applicants should send a letter of interest to Atwater Trustees, P.O. Box 9, Atwater OH 44201 by July 9. Interviews will be conducted on July 13, immediately after the trustees’ 6:30 pm budget hearing. The Town Hall is located at 1219 SR 183.

The township fire department is planning its centennial celebration as it hits the 100 year mark in Sept. 2022. Anyone with ideas may contact the trustees or the fire department.

Nov. 9-15 was Ohio Soil Health Week, and throughout Ohio there were events to honor the soil. Surprisingly, within a spoonful of soil there are more living organisms than there are people currently on this planet.
