Suffield firm looks to build over 40 new homes near Wingfoot Lake

- Wendy DiAlesandro ,

A Suffield company is pursuing a significant new housing development near Wingfoot Lake, where it recently acquired an additional property along state Route 43.

Wingfoot Development, which is associated with the Mogadore-based construction company H.M. Miller, bought about 6.8 acres on state Route 43, adjacent to Suffield Oaks Lane, on May 5.

The property backs onto Wingfoot Lake, which itself is owned by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources.

Wingfoot Development also owns 133 acres directly north of the 6.8 parcel, across from Rufener Hilltop Farms.

The land, which also backs onto Wingfoot Lake, is otherwise used for agricultural purposes. Wingfoot Development has owned that land since May 31, 2017, when it acquired it for $1.15 million from the Schumacher Land Holding Co.

The larger parcel also joins the parcel where Suffield Elementary School is located.

H.M. Miller presented preliminary plans to build more than 42 houses to township trustees last winter.

Township Trustee Jeff Eldreth said the plans include a right-of-way off one cul-de-sac so children can walk to the elementary school.

An H.M. Miller representative said lots will be sold by Berkshire Hathaway Stouffer Realty but declined further comment.

Realtor Sharon Holderbaum said no information will be available for at least a month as the process is going slower than anticipated.

H.M. Miller has not pulled any permits or submitted plans for review to the county building department, Portage County Building Director Joe Bodnar said.

Varner: Maddalena’s in Kent offers authentic food, at-home feel

- by Simon Varner. - by Do you remember going to grandma’s house for a family dinner? The way it smelled, the way the adults chatted while you and the other kids laughed in front of a TV playing colorful cartoons. Most importantly, do you remember the food? I remember, and Mandy Yannucci, co-owner of Maddalena’s in Kent, remembers, too.
