Streetsboro to hold public hearing on pause on hotels, car washes and more

- Wendy DiAlesandro ,

Streetsboro City Council will hold a public hearing on its temporary moratorium regarding new hotels, motels, car washes and recreational marijuana facilities in the city.

The hearing is set for Jan. 8 at council chambers in City Hall, directly after a 7 p.m. public hearing to add Viega LLC’s vacant 13-acre lot to the Streetsboro-Shalersville Joint Economic Development District.

Council approved a temporary moratorium on new car washes, hotels and motels in January 2023, reasoning that the city already has enough of these establishments.

Regarding marijuana dispensaries, council plans to limit the number of dispensaries in the city to two. The facilities would have to be housed in stand-alone buildings and could not be part of multi-tenant buildings like shopping centers or located in areas zoned industrial.

Streetsboro currently does not have any marijuana dispensaries, medical or recreational.

Council first considered limiting recreational marijuana facilities in December 2023, a month after Ohio voters opted to legalize recreational marijuana.

Varner: Maddalena’s in Kent offers authentic food, at-home feel

- by Simon Varner. - by Do you remember going to grandma’s house for a family dinner? The way it smelled, the way the adults chatted while you and the other kids laughed in front of a TV playing colorful cartoons. Most importantly, do you remember the food? I remember, and Mandy Yannucci, co-owner of Maddalena’s in Kent, remembers, too.
