This week we will have five area open mics to consider. Sunday the action begins at the Euro Gyro in beautiful downtown Kent at 107 St. Depeyster St. The Host is Nick Fleming. The action starts at 8 p.m. This open mic is for stand-up comedy and music (comedy is seven minutes and music is three songs).

On Monday, there’s an open mic in Ravenna at the Tavern 1888 located at 100 E. Main St. Monday’s guest host is none other than Carol Cain. The event starts at 7 p.m. and signups begin at 6:30 p.m.

On Tuesday, travel a little bit to the east in Akron (1947 W. Market St.) for the Open Mic night at the Mercedes Tavern hosted by John Markovich. This event begins at 7 p.m. with signups at 6:30 p.m.

Also on Tuesday, there is the monthly open mic at the Kent Lanes (1524 S. Water St.). Please join Jake and Jeff for a fun evening of music. This is a great place to meet old and new friends, grab something to eat and listen to a wide variety of music. Plus, if you come early enough, you could bowl a round or two.

Finally, on Friday we round out the week back in downtown Kent at the Last Exit Bookstore (124 E. Main St.) with host Alex Jackson.

Join our Facebook group, Portage/Summit County Area Open Mics for all the upcoming open mics in the area.

Around Ravenna: Warm up with these community events coming up this month

- by Angie Reedy. - by The 39th annual Celebration of Lights was held in December at the University Hospitals Portage Medical Center in Ravenna, hosted by the hospital’s Auxiliary. It was a successful evening and the committee wants to thank everyone who came, donated money or helped in any way for their participation, and especially Shorts-Spicer-Crislip Funeral Homes for its sponsorship.
