Tobe Smiley
Tobe Smiley passed away on April 6, 2024, at the age of 73, in Ravenna, Ohio after a six-month battle with cancer.
He was born on December 4, 1950, in Ravenna, Ohio to the late Earline (Woodard) Smiley and George “Jack” Smiley. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers: Leroy E. Davis “Junior”, Ricky G. Smiley, and sisters: Joanne (Davis) Fields, and Sheryl L. Smiley.
Tobe graduated from Ravenna High School in 1970. He then joined and proudly served his country in the United States Air Force for 10 years. After leaving the Air Force, he was employed by Filmco, Ravenna School District, Kent State University and Portage County Government.
Earlier in his life, he attended the New Mount Calvary Baptist Church with his family. Tobe was an avid reader and really loved acquiring knowledge. He also enjoyed travelling and cooking.
He will be greatly missed by his sister, Jackie (Smiley) Bell of Ravenna. Mother of his children: Chong “Angel” Smiley of Cleveland; daughters: Tamara Smiley and Kyrina Smiley and four grandchildren: Katarina Smiley, Ke-Aira Miller, Kyrie Smiley and Karey Croff; brothers-in-law: Babe R. Fields of Akron and Willie B. Bell of Ravenna; as well as many nieces, nephews, friends, and a host of other relatives.
A special thank you to the staff and social workers from the Veterans Administration Hospitals in Cleveland and Ravenna, Hospice of the Western Reserve and Village Care Givers.
Friends will be received at the Wood-Kortright-Borkoski Funeral Home, 703 E. Main St. Ravenna, on Monday, April 15, 2024 from 11am until the funeral service, officiated by Pastor Patricia Dennison, beginning at 12:30pm. Interment will be held at Ohio Western Reserve Cemetery on Tuesday, April 16th at 10:45am.
