Open mics for the week of Aug. 21

The week of August 21 brings us 11 different choices for open mic entertainment. It doesn’t matter where you live in the Summit/Portage County area there is an open mic that you can attend. Come out and play or listen to this unique part of the area music scene.

We start off the week in downtown Kent on Sunday, August 21 at the Euro Gyro found at 107 S. Depeyster St. The Host is Nick Fleming. The action starts at 8 p.m. This open mic is for stand-up comedy and music (comedy gets seven minutes and musicians are allowed three songs). There will be plenty of food and drink is available. Always a great night of music and laughs.

Also on Sunday, we have an open mic at the Bailey Road Tavern. Jesse Kisner AKA Hobo Jesco is the host. They have food and drink specials, patio seating and a very chill vibe. The address is 2920 Bailey Rd, Cuyahoga Falls. This open mic starts at 9 p.m. for all the night owls out there and will go until 2:30 a.m. 

On Monday, for our Akron musicians we have the open mic at the Matinee (812 W. Market St.) with your host Vince Paparella. This open mic will start at 7 p.m.  

Also on Monday, get your Irish on with the return of Celtic Rush as guest hosts at the Tavern 1888. Enjoy great music, food and spirits with all the action starting at 7 p.m. If you are in the area, you really don’t want to miss this one. The Tavern 1888 is in downtown Ravenna at 105 W. Main St.

On Tuesday, travel a little bit west to Akron (1947 W. Market St.) for the open mic night at
the Mercedes Tavern hosted by John Markovich. This event begins at 7 p.m. with signups at 6:30 p.m. Great atmosphere with good music and friends to meet or make.

Also on Tuesday, if you are in the Norton (3044 Wadsworth Rd.) area, come on out to the Wolf Creek Tavern. Your open mic hosts are the Blue Moondogs. The open mic starts at 7 p.m.      

On Wednesday travel to 3069 Houston Rd. in Norton for the open mic at the Houston Pub with your host Vince Paparalla. Open mic starts at 7 p.m.

Also on Wednesday, come on out to this open mic at downtown Ravenna’s West Main St. Winery, Brewery & Cider House with Miss Frankie as your host. This fun starts a little earlier here at 6 p.m. and is located at 234 W. Main St.

On Thursday at the Divine Restaurant found at 2752 Hudson Dr., Cuyahoga Falls is an open mic hosted by Landon Kearns. The fun starts at 8 p.m. Food, spirits and music are all available. Please check this one out.

Also on Thursday, at 584 W. Tuscarawas St. in Barberton is open mic night at the Kave Coffee Bar, where it is youth and novice friendly. Your hosts are Christopher Haught and Hansen Risley. The open mic starts at 6:30 p.m. and goes until 8:30 p.m.

Finally, on Friday, round out your week at the M & M Taphouse in Barberton (523 W. Tuscarawas St.) with your host Mike Ryan. This open mic starts at 7 p.m.

Rootstown’s annual “Light It Up” event will take place at 6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6 by Town Hall at 3988 State Route 44 and the First Congregational Church United Church of Christ at 4022 State Route 44, right in the center of town.

Free health fair in Ravenna on Nov. 5

Free snacks, blood pressure checks, flu shots and more will be available at a health fair set for 4-6 p.m. Nov. 5 at 575 Lake St., Ravenna.

Paris Township’s Trick-or-Treat will be from noon to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 1. Trunk-or-Treat will be at the same time at the Shearer Community Center at 9355 Newton Falls Rd.
