Mantua will host a village-wide holiday event Dec. 7

- Wendy DiAlesandro ,

The village of Mantua will host “A Merry Evening in the Village” from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Dec. 7.

Sporting Christmas decorations and stocked with holiday items, village shops will be open until 8 p.m. Restaurants will offer food specials, and the Crestwood High School choir will sing Christmas carols.

The Crestwood band will hold a cookie walk at the Restoration 44 Coffee Co., with proceeds to benefit their planned February trip to perform at Walt Disney World.

From 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., more than 20 vendors will offer unique gift options at a Farmers and Makers Market in the basement of the Granary building on Prospect Street.

The Mantua Rotary Club will be accepting bids for its decorated Christmas tree auction; all the trees will be on display throughout the event. A Rotary member will personally deliver trees to the high bidders on Dec. 10.

People who wish to view the event in style may arrange for carriage rides, available from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Cost is $10 per person. To reserve one of 210 available spots, visit Eventbrite.

On-street parking is limited and is not legal in some areas. Free parking will be available at Compass Packaging’s employee parking lot at the corner of Orchard Street and Main Street, at Advanced Rehab on Mill Street and at the Headwaters Trailhead behind McDonald’s. Golf cart rides will be available for people with mobility issues.

Around Ravenna: Warm up with these community events coming up this month

- by Angie Reedy. - by The 39th annual Celebration of Lights was held in December at the University Hospitals Portage Medical Center in Ravenna, hosted by the hospital’s Auxiliary. It was a successful evening and the committee wants to thank everyone who came, donated money or helped in any way for their participation, and especially Shorts-Spicer-Crislip Funeral Homes for its sponsorship.
