Letter: When will we step up with affordable housing?

- Letter to the editor ,

Affordable housing seems to be a non-issue in Kent and Portage County. The development at the former KSU golf course is building homes starting at $300,000?

There does not seem to be any interest among our leaders to address housing shortages for retirees and other folks of modest means. Rather, the city of Kent and surrounding areas are building high rises and pricey structures that do not reflect the incomes of most local residents.

There is also the issue of who is buying up what houses are available by buying outright in bidding wars. It seems that another housing bubble (and crash) is inevitable.

I am reminded of how KSU booted out retirees in Silver Oaks to make way for student housing.

Looks like history does repeat itself.

Where are our leaders on this issue?
