Documenters: Brimfield Trustee meeting for Nov. 10, 2025
- Noell Wolfgram Evans
The Brimfield Trustees held a regular meeting on Nov. 10, 2025. The meeting started at 8 a.m. in the Brimfield Township Town Hall. In attendance were Chairman Nic Coia, Vice Chairman Mike Kostensky, Fiscal Officer Jasmine Golden, Police Chief Roy Mosley III, Fire Chief Craig Mullaly, Parks and Rec Director Cassie Weyer, Road Superintendent Dave Rufener and Economic Development Director and Zoning Inspector Mike Hlad. Trustee Sue Fields was not present and her absence was excused.
Following the call to order and roll call, Coia led those in attendance in the Pledge of Allegiance, followed by a moment of silence.
The first item was set for the approval of minutes, but those had not been reviewed yet and were asked to be tabled until the following meeting. Also tabled were the introduction and discussion of any purchase orders. One adjustment was offered to the agenda by Mullaly. He asked that his request for board approval of a purchase be adjusted from $10,000 to “not to exceed $7,500” and the company name Vasu Communications be added to the purchasing request.
Kostensky then took a moment to congratulate “Kevin, Nic and Jasmine on their election wins.”
Mosley provided a brief report for the police department. Tickets are now on sale for the Dec. 5 movie night. The proceeds of that will benefit the Shop with a Cop program, which will take place on Dec. 13. He also said a new K9 handler had been hired and will begin work in 2026.
Mullaly reported that the three entry-level firefighters had returned from their training in Columbus. Two have received the results of their state test and the third is still awaiting their score. They will begin to see shifts going forward. The fire department is currently considering adjusting the Santa on a Truck program to include reusable shopping bags to make deliveries easier for Santa.
Kostensky wondered if there was a way to develop a similar program for seniors in the community.
“There are a lot of people who are lonely,” Kostensky said. “How can we have an Adopt-a-Senior program?”
Mullaly said it was something they could discuss.
Mullaly then asked for trustee approval of the purchase of three new portable radios from Vasu Communications. The request was approved unanimously.
The only item of new business was the consideration of a request by the Department of Commerce. The department asked the trustees if they wanted a hearing on the request by OHM Services LLC for a C2 liquor license for a Holiday Inn at 1215 Sanctuary View Dr. The trustees voted no on the hearing request.
Hlad next announced that, as of Nov. 10, the township had collected $70,292 in zoning fees for the year. That could increase as there is a hotel looking to go in behind the McDonalds that Hlad reported had “several variance requests.” These will be discussed at a zoning commission meeting on Nov. 19. Hlad also announced that the Hallmark store is open and Drug Mart would be opening on Nov. 12.
The township is done crack sealing for the year, according to Ruefner. He said that they were finally able to do some road mowing now that the political signs had been taken down. The road department currently has plans to complete some road ditching in the coming days, as well.
Rufener said that they are awaiting the delivery of 300 tons of salt that will be needed this winter.
Weyer provided an update on the Parks and Rec Department. The department recently held a community meeting.
“We had six attendees and had some really good discussions on community events and programs,” Weyer said.
She added that there are senior fitness classes, scrapbooking events and the Hometown Christmas celebration planned. The department will also be collecting non-perishable food items for the food cupboard.
Coia asked about the decision to not hold the pumpkin roll this year. Weyer said it was due to budget and staff, but she hoped to see it come back next year.
There were no reports from the IT department or the cemetery commission.
Golden said she was working on the 2026 budget and she had already spoken with the department heads about closing out 2025 spending.
With no additional business, the meeting was adjourned at 8:33 a.m.
