The Rootstown Lions Club will be putting up banners downtown honoring local veterans leading up to Memorial Day on Monday, May 26. The banners will have the veterans’ names and photos on them.
“It’s always a nice way to recognize anybody in your family who has served,” township Trustee Dave McIntyre said.

The Rootstown Endzone Club’s annual Golf Outing and Sportsman Raffle will be Saturday, June 7 at Sunny Hills Golf Course at 3734 Sunnybrook Rd. The golf outing will be for teams of four. The Lions Club held its annual Easter Egg Hunt on April 19 at Rootstown Community Park.
“It was very well attended,” McIntyre said. “There were a couple hundred kids there.”
Paris
Portage County received a grant to pay for replacing and repairing road signs (Stop, Yield, etc.) throughout Paris Township. County roads will be done by Portage County, and township roads will be done by Paris’ road department. The project will begin early this summer and should be completed by the end of the summer.
Edinburg
Edinburg’s annual Memorial Day Parade and Ceremony will be Monday, May 26. The parade will begin at 11 a.m. at the corner of Tallmadge Road and Rock Spring Road. The parade will conclude at Edinburg Township Cemetery on state Route 14, where there will be a service that will include speakers and a gun salute by the American Legion.
Deerfield
Deerfield’s annual Memorial Day Parade and Ceremony will take place Monday, May 26. The parade will start at 9 a.m. at the Deerfield Township Fire Department at 9482 State Route 224. The parade will conclude at Deerfield Cemetery on state Route 224, where there will be a service.
