Celebrate Portage! announces nominees for this year’s community awards

The 2023 Celebrate Portage! Awards Dinner will take place on Thursday, Sept. 28 at the NEW Center at NEOMED.

The dinner honors Portage County residents, nonprofits and programs that support the community, and promote volunteerism, community service and involvement.

The awards dinner is an annual event featuring food, entertainment and networking opportunities. Tickets can be purchased here.

Here are this year’s nominees:

Community Hero: Gina Fischione, Jonathan Floyd, Deseree Liddell, Jordan Michael, Debbie Sunderland and Bruce Zuchowski

Community Improvement: Portage County Board of DD, Ravenna City DORA and the Ravenna High School Civics Honors Program

Community Service: Haven of Portage County, Socially Responsible Sweatshop and the Rootstown Historical Society

Employee of the Year: MaryJo Cline, Arasin Hughes, Crystal Hickman, Tim Whittlesey and John Vennetti

Health Initiative: Food For Life Market at University Hospitals and the Portage County Board of DD

Youth Initiative: Cub Scout Pack 3551 Ravenna, Main Street Ravenna Youth Community Star, Running Rockets and Za’Nya Henderson.

Around Ravenna: Warm up with these community events coming up this month

- by Angie Reedy. - by The 39th annual Celebration of Lights was held in December at the University Hospitals Portage Medical Center in Ravenna, hosted by the hospital’s Auxiliary. It was a successful evening and the committee wants to thank everyone who came, donated money or helped in any way for their participation, and especially Shorts-Spicer-Crislip Funeral Homes for its sponsorship.
