Around Garrettsville: Pride and Prejudice and Summerfest

The Garrettsville Curtains up Theatre is proud to announce that the cast of “Pride & Prejudice” is in rehearsals. The show runs Aug. 1, 2, 7 and 8. Thank you to the sponsors: Ryser Insurance, Middlefield Carter Lumber and Jeff Rinearson Health Insurance. The show will be in the James A. Garfield Iva Walker Auditorium at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 1, 7 and 8, and at 1 p.m. Aug. 2. Tickets are available at the door. Our prices are the same as when we opened the doors 20 years ago: adults are $10, while children under 12 and seniors over 65 are $8.


The Garrettsville Area Chamber of Commerce Board will cut the ribbon on the Chamber’s new Buckeye Block Amphitheater!

Come celebrate the grand opening with live music from members of Thrill of the Ville and help us mark a new chapter for a historic downtown space.


The Garrettsville Farmers Market is up and running. Come by from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursdays.


Summerfest is coming June 26-28. The Summerfest Parade will be held at 12:30 p.m. Sunday, June 28, with the talent show taking place at 7 p.m. the same day. The talent show is open to all ages, with the money prizes being $1,000 for first place, $500 for second place and $250 for third place. Throughout the weekend there will be live music, entertainment, and lots of yummy food and beverages. The Summerfest committee will release the schedule of events soon.


St. Ambrose Church’s 66th Chicken Dinner Festival will take place June 27-28 at the church’s location at 10692 Freedom St. Come join the fun and enjoy a delicious chicken dinner, then partake in the large church raffle, cash raffle and corporate prize raffle. For the bingo lover in you, bingo is held outside under the tent from noon to 8 p.m. Saturday and noon to 6 p.m. Sunday. The dinners are served from noon to 7:30 p.m. Saturday and noon to 6 p.m. Sunday. The event will also feature its famous beet tent as well as concessions. Chicken dinner includes an open-pit barbecue half-chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, roll and butter, and a delicious dessert. Cost is $15 for adults and $10 for children. There is a senior and military discount.
