Around Garrettsville: Fill your freezer, stock up on cookies and say hello to Santa

The Garrettsville Curtains up Theatre is happy to announce that its 20th anniversary production, “The Phantom of the Opera” (non-musical version), by Gene Traylor with permission from the Dramatic Publishing Company, will feature five performances in January 2026.

This production is sponsored by Ryser Insurance; Jeff Rinearson Health Insurance; Kelly Zander, Realtor, Middlefield; Carter Lumber; and Sarchione Chevrolet — Paul McEwuen. Show dates are 7 p.m. Jan. 16, 17, 23 and 24, and 1 p.m. Jan. 18. Tickets will be available at the door.


The St. Ambrose Knights of Columbus are hosting Breakfast with Santa at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 13 at the church hall.


The annual Christmas Cookie Sale hosted by the St. Ambrose Altar & Rosary Society will be held after 11 a.m. Mass on Sunday, Dec. 14 in the church hall. Payment is cash or check only. They will have assorted cookie trays as well as some smaller mixed assortments. These include but are not limited to buckeyes, clothespin cookies, kolache, peanut blossoms and holiday cutouts. They will also have nut and poppy seed rolls as well as a few gluten- and sugar-free options.


The Knights of Columbus are holding a Holiday Meat Raffle. Fill your freezer with $250 of meat from a local meat shop or choose $250 cash. Tickets are available for $20 each. Only 100 tickets are being sold. Two winning tickets will be drawn Sunday, Nov. 30. For tickets, contact Dave Vincent at 330-243-2999 or Greg Leopold at 330-719-1500.


Small Business Saturday is Nov. 29, and the Clock Tower Lighting with Santa Claus will be held the same day. Santa arrives at about 5:30 p.m. Mrs. Claus will be at the Cellar Door Coffee Co. at 4 p.m.

Around Garrettsville: Fall Festival and Oktoberfest join forces

The Garrettsville Fall Fest merged into the Garrettsville Oktoberfest, and from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 20 it will be held in downtown Garrettsville. There will be accordion music from noon until 2 p.m., with local restaurants serving up some traditional Oktoberfest foods such as Oktoberfest beer, kielbasa sandwiches, hasenpfeffer with potatoes, schnitzel, kraut balls and pretzels at Garrett’s Mill, with Slim & Jumbo’s offering wurst platters and schnitzel.
