Around Edinburg: Thanksgiving fun and literary happenings

- Cathy Klein

This month, the Edinburg Ohio Historical Society attended a self-publishing class held at Books a Go Go in Ravenna. The presentation was done by local Edinburg author S.A. Schneider and he explained the differences of trying to get published the traditional route through a publishing house or self-publishing. He then discussed the easiest ways to go about self-publishing along with many tips and tricks. For more information, you can contact Schneider through his website at sa-schneider.com.

The Southeast High School drama club will be performing “Pride & Prejudice” Friday and Saturday. Showtimes for both nights are 7 p.m. with doors opening at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students. Stargrams will be available for $2 each.

Congratulations to Edinburg Firefighter Jacob Michael for becoming a Fire Life Safety Educator and Child Passenger Safety Inspector. He will help promote fire safety education classes within our township as well as car seat safety checks.

If you haven’t had a chance to check out the new rest stops on Interstate-76, they look terrific. Not only are the rest stops on both sides of the highway brand new, but they have lots of interesting facts about the state, the nature aspects of Ohio and there is a Storybook Trail to follow with the kids. It is located between the Edinburg and Palmyra exits of the highway.

If you want some fun activities Thanksgiving weekend, check out Midnight Madness in Ravenna on Friday night. The event kicks off with a light up parade at 5 p.m. and goes until 10 p.m. throughout the different businesses downtown including my bookstore, Books a Go Go.

On Black Friday, I will have live music, a local author and refreshments, so it will be a great time to start holiday shopping. I will also have local authors on Saturday and Sunday, as well as free gift wrapping all weekend on purchases. Feel free to check the website for more details at www.booksagogostore.com or call at 330-442-4226.

Please send information to my email at CM101495@aol.com by the second Wednesday of the month to be included in the column and thank you.

Around Edinburg: Celebrating Ravenna’s new book store

- by Cathy Klein .

On Aug. 30, I celebrated the Grand Opening of my bookstore in Ravenna, Books a Go Go. I could not have dreamed of a better day and cannot thank the members of the community enough for coming out to show their support. Thank you as well to the Main Street Ravenna organization and the Ravenna Area Chamber of Commerce for putting together a great Ribbon Cutting Ceremony.
