Sun Beau Valley Event Center (formerly Sunbeau Valley Farm) will be the site of two events this summer, both hosted by Ravenna’s Parks and Recreation Department.
Ravenna Parks and Rec is partnering with Reed Memorial Library to present Summer Celebration, set for 5-8 p.m. June 5. The event will feature food vendors, bounce houses and archery activities. Horse-themed activities include hayrides, horseshoes, stick horse races for kids and a small petting zoo. Live music will be on offer, as will tours and presentations focusing on Sun Beau’s history.
Since Summer Celebration is the city’s first large event at Sun Beau, a ribbon-cutting ceremony will also be held. The event is free and open to the public, and parking is also free. Enter Sun Beau Valley off Brady Lake Road, as the city has closed the entrance off state Route 59.
Ravenna Parks and Rec is also hosting an after-party concert to cap off the county’s only celebration of America’s 250th anniversary.
The concert is set for 7-9 p.m. July 11 at Sun Beau Valley Event Center. Tickets cost $15 and are available through the Ravenna Parks and Rec website: ravennarecreation.recdesk.com.
The featured band is DEK of Hearts, a powerhouse trio that blends country, pop and bluegrass influences with three-part harmonies. DEK of Hearts advanced to the Top 3 in season 28 of NBC’s The Voice and is preparing to make its debut on the Grand Ole Opry.
Food vendors will also be on hand. Parking is free. Enter off Brady Lake Road.
Ravenna Parks and Rec is also finalizing its disc golf course at Chestnut Hills Park, 130 Chestnut Hill Dr. People who have discs can utilize the course. Those without discs can check them out for two weeks with a card from any Portage County library, including Kent Free Library.
A three-disc starter pack, carry bag and water bottle will be given to people who sign up for Ravenna Parks and Rec’s Intro to Disc Golf. Register by May 12 at ravennarecreation.recdesk.com. Cost is $40 for the two-day clinic, which includes rules, scoring and how to throw and play.
