Comedian Steve Byrne headlined a night of comedy at the Water Street Tavern on Thursday night, along with Bill Squire, Anthony Savatt and host Mike Polk Jr.

Byrne, a 1996 Kent State theater graduate, is best known as the creator of the Sullivan & Son series that ran three seasons on TBS. He has performed his stand-up routine on various late-night shows.

At Water Street, he moved among the audience and asked Polk questions, making playful remarks with the audience members.

Polk opened the show with his own set, joking about his experience studying communication at Kent State, his career in journalism and recent events.

Polk handed it off to Savatt, who was a Kent State accounting major.

Squire was the only comedian there who did not graduate college. Squire joked with a group of women in the audience who were studying nursing.

Around Ravenna: Warm up with these community events coming up this month

- by Angie Reedy. - by The 39th annual Celebration of Lights was held in December at the University Hospitals Portage Medical Center in Ravenna, hosted by the hospital’s Auxiliary. It was a successful evening and the committee wants to thank everyone who came, donated money or helped in any way for their participation, and especially Shorts-Spicer-Crislip Funeral Homes for its sponsorship.
