Marjorie Taylor Greene event ‘postponed’ with no new date set and tickets refunded

An August event set to feature U.S. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia as a speaker has been postponed, said Portage County Republican Party Chair Amanda Suffecool.

The Portage County Republican Party has not yet set a new date for the event, which was originally planned for Aug. 19 at The Overlook in Kent. Greene’s staff did not provide additional details for the postponement beyond saying the congresswoman has a scheduling conflict.

Suffecool said it may be challenging to find a new date that works with both her and Greene’s schedules. Suffecool, who works as a nationally syndicated radio host and public speaker, said her schedule is full through October and into November.

Those who bought tickets to attend the event will be refunded, Suffecool said.

Greene took office Jan. 3 and has courted controversy — and acclaim on the extreme right — by promoting conspiracy theories. The House of Representatives voted to remove her from her committee assignments.

She has no apparent connection to Portage County, and some local individuals have suggested protesting the visit or boycotting The Overlook.

Suffecool acknowledged that “there’s been a lot of emotion” on both sides of the aisle about Greene speaking, but she encouraged people to not dismiss Greene for “soundbite reasons.”
