Kent’s Pioneer Cemetery is looking for more volunteers

- Wendy DiAlesandro ,

The Kent Pioneer Cemetery volunteers need more members if they are to continue their mission of restoring and maintaining Kent’s oldest cemetery.

Pioneer Cemetery dates back to 1810 and includes the final resting place of Eva Haymaker, whose family was the first to settle in Kent.

Volunteers typically “adopt” a grave or family plot, clearing it of weeds and perhaps planting flowers or other foliage in time for Memorial Day.

Anyone interested in learning about the cemetery or participating is welcome to attend the group’s meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 27 at the Kent Historical Society, 237 E. Main St. Refreshments, including adult beverages, will be served.

The Kent Flea supports local artisans, as well as historic home

- by Jeremy Brown. - In 2017, artist Beth Stoneking and Rockton Lodge #316 Trustee Fred Moore teamed up to create the Kent Flea and Makers Market to raise funds to help maintain the former home of Marvin Kent and to give local craftspeople a venue to offer their artisanal and vintage goods to the community.
