Kent City Council appoints Jack Amrhein to finish late mayor’s term

- Margaret Lennox

President Pro Tem and Ward 2 council member Jack Amrhein was appointed as the mayor of Kent and president of City Council at the regular council meeting on Oct. 15. Amrhein will finish out the remainder of the late Mayor Jerry Fiala’s term

Amrhein is also running for mayor and currently has no opposition in the election.

The vote to appoint Amrhein as mayor was unanimous, and several council members expressed their support for Amrhein.

“I’m very pleased this evening to vote for Jack. It’s always a pleasure to vote

for someone you know will do an outstanding job,” said Gwen Rosenberg, council member at large.

Amrhein gave his first mayor’s comment at the end of the regular meeting.

“Thank you for your confidence in me. I will do the best job that I can. I’ve got big shoes to fill, and I know that, so I will be working very hard,” Amrhein said.
