Free health fair in Ravenna on Nov. 5

Free snacks, blood pressure checks, flu shots and more will be available at a health fair set for 4-6 p.m. Nov. 5 at 575 Lake St., Ravenna.

On hand with information about the services they provide will be Axess Family Services (formerly known as Family & Community Services), the Mental Health & Recovery Board of Portage County, Community Action Council of Portage County, Townhall II, the Portage County Combined General Health District and Supportive Services for Veteran Families.

The Kent Health Department will offer fall risk assessments and smoking cessation readiness tips and resources. Job and Family Services representatives will provide information about its services, including Medicare and Medicaid. Representatives may be able to process applications.

Randi Clites, Ohio Dental Program manager of the Greater Ohio Bleeding Disorder Foundation, will offer information on rare diseases and bleeding disorders. Representatives from Ravenna’s Center for Hope will offer information about area food pantries, and O.U.R. Place reps will share addiction recovery options. The Children’s Advocacy Center of Portage County, which provides services to children, teens and families navigating the trauma of child abuse, will also be on hand.

Musical entertainment will be provided by Lauren Brabson, the Celtic Trio, It’s About Time, Bryan Renkes and Phil McDonald.

The event is hosted by the community engagement arm of the Portage County Democrats. It is free and open to the public.

The Kent Flea supports local artisans, as well as historic home

- by Jeremy Brown. - In 2017, artist Beth Stoneking and Rockton Lodge #316 Trustee Fred Moore teamed up to create the Kent Flea and Makers Market to raise funds to help maintain the former home of Marvin Kent and to give local craftspeople a venue to offer their artisanal and vintage goods to the community.
