Mogadore
Mogadore Village Council passed legislation to put on the Nov. 3 ballot the renewal of an existing 3.5-mill tax levy with an increase of 1.23 mill for a total of 4.73 mills for the continuation of the full-time Mogadore Fire Department.
“If passed, that would also bring in approximately half a million dollars,” Mayor Mike Rick said.
Village Council passed a resolution to execute an engineering service grant with GPD Group to start the redesigning of the downtown intersection of state Route 532 and Mogadore Road. The lanes will be enlarged, there will be some righthand lanes added and the traffic signals will be updated. All of this is an attempt to alleviate traffic and the long waits in lefthand turn lanes through that intersection.
Vanone’s Barbershop recently opened at 3878 Mogadore Rd. in the old U.S. Bank building.
Randolph
The 168th Portage County Fair will be held from Tuesday, Aug. 25, to Sunday, Aug. 30, at the county fairgrounds in Randolph. As usual, attractions will include animal shows, scavenger hunts, workshops, live music, games, classes, auctions, games and contests. Not to mention, a great variety of good eats, too. Grandstand events will include demolition derbies, tractor races, tractor and truck pulls and a Rough Truck Contest. The brand new pavilion/accessible restrooms at Old School Park on state Route 44 is now open for use. There are a few picnic tables inside the pavilion, with more possibly to come.
Suffield
