More than 1,000 people rallied on the Portage County Courthouse lawn in downtown Ravenna and near the gazebo in downtown Kent as part of the “Hands Off!” national day of action around the country on Saturday.
Three hundred people held signs and cheered when cars honked as they drove by in Ravenna between 1:30-2:30 p.m. The crowd nearly tripled in size from 3-4 p.m. in Kent.
The protests were two of an estimated 1,400 nationwide protests organized by Hands Off!, a coalition of civil and women’s rights organizations, labor unions, and other groups.
According to the Hands Off! Portage County Fights Back website: “This mass mobilization day is our message to the world that we do not consent to the destruction of our democratic government and our economy for the benefit of Trump and his billionaire allies. Alongside Americans across the country, we are marching, rallying, and protesting to demand a stop the chaos and build an opposition movement against the looting of our country.”
