County roundup: The state Route 44 project moves forward in Rootstown, plus news from Paris

Rootstown

The planning stages of the state Route 44 project in Rootstown are underway. OHM, an engineering and architectural firm the township hired to guide it, will soon be holding a community meeting for any of its proposals.

“We’re looking at widening the road, putting in roundabouts, redeveloping that whole area to make traffic flow better and have a better use of land,” township Trustee Dave McIntyre said.

The Ohio Department of Transportation will do the project.

The Rootstown Sports Boosters will hold its annual reverse raffle Saturday, March 8 at the Immaculate Conception Parish Hall at 251 W. Spruce Ave. in Ravenna. Tickets cost $75, which includes dinner, drinks and the reverse raffle. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m., and dinner will be served at 6 p.m. To purchase tickets, call Rootstown High School Athletic Director Keith Waesch at 330-325-7911 or McIntyre at 330-714-1334.

Paris

The Paris Township Trustees approved an increase in the pay rate for the following Paris Township Fire Department employees, effective Jan. 1:

*Paramedics, $18/hour
*EMT Advanced, $17/hour
*EMT, $16/hour
*Firefighter 2, $15/hour
*Firefighter 1/EMR, $14/hour

“The fire department is becoming more competitive with the areas around Paris,” township Trustee Dave Kemble said. “They’re trying to get more people who will do shifts and be there during the day.”

A resolution establishing a video service provider fee to be paid by any video service provider (e.g., Spectrum) offering video service in Paris authorizes the township’s fiscal officer to give notice to video service providers of the video service provider fee. The township will receive 5% of the video providers’ gross revenues.
