County roundup: Road projects and town hall upgrades coming to Atwater, plus news from Suffield

Atwater

Atwater Township is chip-and-sealing German Church Road and Bank Street and is fog sealing Laubert Road. Fog sealing helps to seal small cracks in pavement and prevents water from penetrating the surface, which can cause damage over time. Also, township road workers have begun underdrain work in the Hillcrest Allotment to correct water drainage issues.

The township trustees continue to discuss several projects that will be funded by the last of the CARES Act money that must be designated by the end of 2024. At the top of the list are the repairs to the front exterior of the town hall along with acoustical work inside the town hall. Other projects include an electronic sign for the town center, the purchase of a new snowplow blade and road broom and architectural plans for a future maintenance garage.

The township trustees entered into a “Conditional Real Estate Sale and Purchase Agreement” with the Portage County Land Reutilization Corporation (the Land Bank) for the property located at 1072 S.R. 183 in order to help recoup the cost of razing and cleaning up the property.

The Atwater zoning board of appeals approved a conditional use permit for The Towers, LLC (dba Vertical Bridge) to build a cell tower located at 6610 Waterloo Rd. This 4G tower is designed for use by Verizon at this time but will have room for three carriers.

The Atwater Fire Department held a “Stuff the Truck” with school supplies that were then taken to the Atwater Community Church for the Aug. 16-17 free clothing and school supplies giveaway. Any items not given away on those dates will be taken to the Waterloo Local Schools for use.

The township trustees meet at 7 p.m. the second and fourth Tuesday of each month at the town hall at 1219 S.R. 183. The meetings are open to the public. Also, visit www.atwatertwp.net for township news.

Suffield

Duma Ranch Burger Dispatch is a truck that has been selling fresh hamburgers in the parking lot of Duma’s brick-and-mortar store, which is located at 857 Randolph Rd., since June 1. You can only get these fresh burgers out of the truck.

“It’s really taken off,” township Chair Jeff Eldreth said. “It’s the biggest thing in Suffield right now.”
