County roundup: Mogadore seeks funding for Lincoln Avenue road project, plus news from Atwater, Suffield and Randolph

- Roger Gordon

Mogadore

Mogadore Village Council passed legislation to pursue a grant from the Ohio Department of Transportation to fix the infrastructure of Lincoln Avenue and the east portion of Etter Road. The grant would pay for half of the $1.8 million project.

Said Mayor Mike Rick, “We’d replace the water lines and sanitary sewer lines, curb and cement the streets and put in new sidewalks where there are none and replace any old sidewalks that need repaired.”

Mogadore’s annual limb and branch pickup will be from Monday, Oct. 7 through Friday, Oct. 11. Residents should leave their limbs and branches in the devil strip between the sidewalk and curb.

There will be a soup-and-sandwich lunch sponsored by the Mogadore Historical Society from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 9 at the Russell M. Pry Community Center at 3857 Mogadore Rd. Soups are $4 a bowl, and sandwiches are $5 apiece.

The village’s Trick-or-Treat will be from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 27.

Atwater

Issue 19 in the upcoming November election is the Atwater Fire Department’s five-year renewal levy for 2.25 mills. This is a fixed-rate levy. Thus, the recent property reappraisals will not have an impact on this levy.

The Atwater Fire Department will be participating in the Waterloo Schools Wellness Fair from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 10 at the high school. The fire department is also working with Waterloo Schools to get all staff certified in “Stop the Bleed” as well as CPR.

Waterloo Community Helping Hands donated a “Lending Library” that was recently installed at the Atwater Old School Park pavilion.

“We want to thank Waterloo Community Helping Hands for helping to enrich our community,” township Chair Thora Green said.

Atwater’s Trick-or-Treat will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 27. The Atwater United Methodist Church will hold a Trunk-or-Treat at the same time in its parking lot at 6380 Waterloo Rd.

Suffield

The annual Suffield Fire Department open house will be from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 10.

“We do this every year to let the community get together and ask questions and give fire truck rides to the kids,” township Chair Jeff Eldreth said. “We normally have the Life Flight helicopter land, too.”

Complimentary food will be provided.

Suffield’s Trick-or-Treat will be from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 27.

A Trunk-or-Treat will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 25 at Wingfoot Lake State Park.

Randolph

The Randolph Township Trustees are still working on the blueprints they got back from an architect for the construction of a pavilion and restrooms at the old school park on state Route 44.

“Hopefully,” township Trustee John Lampe said, “we’ll soon be sending the blueprints to the county to review for permits to make sure we have everything in order before we send the project out for bids. More than likely, the project won’t start until next year because we have a concrete pad and other work to do and winter is coming.”

Around Randolph: Waterloo agriculture students excited for the future of farming

- by Sandy Engle .

Nov. 9-15 was Ohio Soil Health Week, and throughout Ohio there were events to honor the soil. Surprisingly, within a spoonful of soil there are more living organisms than there are people currently on this planet. As we enter this season of delicious festivities, may we be grateful to the farmers and soil microbes which make our food nutritious and tasty.
