County roundup: Fire and EMS levy coming to Charlestown ballots, plus news from Paris and Rootstown

Charlestown

Charlestown Township is putting a 5-mill levy on the November ballot for its fire and EMS.

“We’re doing it because EMS costs have gone up,” township Trustee Tim Patrick said. “We also have a renewal of a 1.5-mill levy. If the 5-mill passes, we’re going to retire the 1.5-mill levy, but we did the renewal just in case the 5-mill doesn’t pass.”

Charlestown’s annual summer festival will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 3 at Charlestown Township Park. There will be a car show, food trucks and children’s activities like a rock-climbing wall and a small display with a fire hose from the Charlestown Volunteer Fire Department.

Rootstown

The Rootstown Historical Society will host its annual picnic and open house at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 6 in one of the pavilions at Rootstown Township Park. Chicken will be served at no cost. Guests are asked to bring a covered dish to share.

The paving of the driveway through Rootstown Township Park and by Gracie Fields was recently completed.

Paris

Paris Township’s third annual car show was July 20 at the Shearer Community Center. There were 50-60 cars in the show, and trophies were awarded in several categories. The emcee was Lil’ John Rinaldi of Big Chuck and Lil’ John fame. Guests enjoyed pulled pork sandwiches among other tasty treats. Disc jockey Boogiemen provided entertainment, and there were raffles and door prizes. Proceeds went to the Paris Township Fire Department, which displayed its fire trucks at the show.

“The show went very well,” township Trustee Dave Kemble said.
