Aurora
The Aurora Police Department honored four people – police officer Alexandria Libertucci, Clarence Goddard, Jose Soto and Chalmette Audia – who assisted in saving a woman’s life at Barrington about a month ago.
The woman’s car hit the curb and overturned. The four people removed her from the car just before it burst into flames. The four people were presented with awards at the Dec. 16 city council meeting.
Aurora Council OK’d a contract for approximately $157,000 to replace a roof on a building at the former SeaWorld amusement park that the city will use as it redevelops the property.
The Aurora Night at the Races scholarship benefit will be Saturday, Feb. 8 at the Hawthorn of Aurora Clubhouse at 685 Walnut Ridge Trl. Doors open at 5:30 p.m., and dinner will be served at 6 p.m. The races will be from 7 to 10 p.m. Cost is $40 per person.

Aurora’s annual holiday tree lighting and festival were held Nov. 30 at Bicentennial Park. Santa Claus, the Grinch and Olaf were there. There were also food trucks, ice carvings and a train to ride, too.
“There were a lot of things to do for everyone. We’ve been expanding it every year. It was fantastic,” Womer Benjamin said. “It was very well-attended.”
The city is purchasing a diesel generator for City Hall and upgrading its electricity to handle it.
“This is in case of power outages,” Womer Benjamin said.
The city is entering into another five-year lease with Carlton Farms to farm 12.3 acres on a city property on Bartlett Road called Harmon Farm.
The city is transferring $6.85 million from its general fund into various capital funds for capital projects next year.
A ribbon cutting was held Dec. 19 at AIM, a manufacturing company that purchased and renovated a building in Aurora’s industrial park. The new business invested $7.2 million, which, among other things, not only improved the building but expanded it by approximately 40,000 square feet.

Streetsboro
Construction on the widening of State Route 43 from Market Square Drive to Frost Road has been shut down until the weather breaks in the spring.
“They have about 10% more of the project to do – putting in curbs, gutters and sidewalks,” Mayor Glenn Broska said. “They expect to be done by the end of June.”
The construction of the new City Hall building is well underway. The electric and plumbing are done.
“The walls will start going up after the holidays,” Broska said, “so we’re pretty excited about that.”
City of Ravenna
A New Year’s Eve party will be held from 6 p.m. to 1 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 31 at the West Main St Winery, Brewery & Cider House at 234 W. Main St. There will be dance parties, giveaways and more.

Ravenna Township
David Moore resigned as the Ravenna Township fire chief. Heather Sweitzer is the acting fire chief. Anyone interested in applying for the position should go to ravennatownship.com.
A new Taco Bell will open on State Route 59 sometime in January.
Shalersville
Several maintenance issues have either recently been addressed or are waiting to be addressed. The township repaired the old pavilion, replacing and flashing rotted wood. The outside door on the side of Town Hall is sticking; it is rusted and will need to be replaced in the spring.
The structure for the new pavilion has been built. Next, the concrete floor is planned for the spring once the weather breaks, and electricity will be added at a later date.
A lot of exciting things are happening at the old one-room schoolhouse, located at the Shalersville Historical Society at 4122 Twinsburg Warren Rd. The chimney is being installed, and students from Maplewood will hang the drywall in January. The schoolhouse is planned to be put on display in the spring.
Financials for 2024 will be closed out, and approximations for 2025 are being finalized.
