The Portage County Flag Hoodie

The design

The most underutilized symbol of Portage County pride is its flag. We present to you for the first time a monochromatic version that you can wear on your person.

The official flag is red, white and blue, which pays tribute to the colors of two other flags you might see flying around Ravenna: those of Ohio and the United States of America. In the middle, you’ll see 17 stars (Ohio was the 17th state in the union) and the year Portage County was split off from Trumbull County and held its first independent elections. 

The stripes, which are red and white in the official flag, represent the 20 original townships that comprised the county. Today there are 18 townships, six villages and five cities.

The hoodie

For the cold fall nights, this is a classic hoodie with a fleecy feel inside. The hoodie is a medium-heavy weight fabric in a 50/50 polyester cotton blend. Fits true to size, but you can check your favorite hoodie with the size chart below to double check your hoodie is the right amount of roomy.

The shop

It allows us to tell more stories, report on local government and expand our coverage. We’re not owned by some out-of-state hedge fund, so the money you spend here comes right back to you in the form of important local news.

What about the other 10% of the profits? Between now and the end of March 2022, a tenth of all sales after expenses will go directly to the Socially Responsible Sweatshop of Kent, an organization of sewists dedicated to repurposing landfill-bound textiles into new, useful items. These were the people who stitched together thousands of masks for first responders during the pandemic. They donate all the proceeds from their sales to organizations fighting hunger in Portage County, including Kent Social Services and the Rural Relief Mobile Food Pantry.
