Juanita M. Pearson

Juanita M. Pearson, age 90, passed away peacefully at home on September 2, 2021 with her family at her side. Juanita was born on May 28, 1931 to Evan and Goldie Owens in Cuyahoga Falls where she grew up. Juanita fondly remembered and shared many of her childhood memories. One involved playing “doctor” on the family cat with her brother Roy and accidentally letting the “patient” loose, being recognized as jump rope champion in the 4th grade, and her brother Wilbur teaching her how to drive. Juanita graduated from Cuyahoga Falls High School in 1948, and then worked as a proofreader for the Orth Printing Company. At that time, Juanita would go square dancing with her friends at Shorty’s Red Barn in Brimfield where she met her future husband, Dale Pearson. Juanita and Dale were married at the Chapel on Fur Hill in Akron on February 10, 1956, moved into the home they had built in Kent, and a year later Dale and Juanita welcomed their daughter, Yvonne. Several years later, looking for a more rural lifestyle, the family moved to a home they built in Mantua. A home that was comfortable and welcoming, mostly due to Juanita’s warm, beautiful smile and her consistent, generous offers to make a meal or snack for family or friends who visited. A trait she so dearly coveted and shared with her own mother.
Although Juanita held various jobs in her life, she decided to be a full-time housewife and mom, faithfully fulfilling the duties of a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. It was clear to anyone who met Juanita that nothing brought her more pride and joy than talking about her family. Whether she interacted with a customer at Hough Bakery in Streetsboro, a nurse at UH Portage, or a fellow musician at Hale Farm, in very short order they were going to hear how Juanita delighted in her immediate and extended family.
Juanita loved to dance, and throughout their marriage, she and Dale made quite a mark on the dancefloor at family and community events. She also
enjoyed the arts. Beginning at an early age, Juanita spent her time drawing still life images and playing the piano. In fact, Juanita was a very gifted piano player, and received great enjoyment playing the upright piano Dale purchased for her when they were dating. Juanita’s talent of playing songs by ear, also allowed her to pick and strum many other instruments, and share her beautiful singing voice. She and her husband shared their musical talents playing ragtime and folk music at various festivals and gatherings through decades of their time together. The family is fortunate to have recordings of Dale and Juanita playing together, a cherished family heirloom to share with future generations.
Juanita is survived by her daughter Yvonne (Les), grandsons Dale (Tiffany) and Brian (Krystal), three great-grandchildren, lifelong family friend Ida (Larry), nieces Dawn (Richard), Lora (Kevin), Connie, and nephews Steve (Sherryl), Wayne (Jackie), and Brad (Hilda). She was close with and leaves her husband’s niece, Judy, and nephew John (Ronnie) as well. Juanita is also survived by her beloved grand dogs, Bella and Bandit.
Juanita was preceded in death by her parents, husband Dale, brothers Roy and Wilbur, and niece Sandy.
The family would like to thank those at the Herrington Heart Failure Clinic in Ravenna and Hospice of the Western Reserve for the wonderful care and kindness given to Juanita.
Per Juanita’s wishes cremation has taken place. A celebration of her life will take place at a later date. Juanita had a great love of animals. Per her expressed wish, in lieu of flowers, the family requests to please consider donating to the Portage County Animal Protective League 8122 Infirmary Rd.
