Paul Murphy, Sr.

Paul Murphy, Sr. of Bokeelia, Florida, passed away Saturday, February 8, 2025, in Hospice after a long illness and complications from a fall. While there is to be no service in Florida, a memorial will be held in Mogadore, Ohio, this coming fall.

Paul was born in Akron, Ohio, on August 09, 1937, to John and Edna (Ghere) Murphy. He was one of eleven children. He married Karen Conley in 1957. Their only son, Paul (PD) Murphy, Jr., was born in 1959.

Paul is preceded in death by his parents, nine of his siblings, and his wife Karen.

Paul is survived by his son PD Murphy (Elaine) of Florida and Georgia and his granddaughter Morgan Murphy Winter (Ryan) of Massachusetts. He is also survived by his brother Larry Murphy of Hartville, Ohio and countless other relatives.

Paul’s passion and commitment to his family, friends and beloved Mogadore community was second to none. He was a stellar athlete for the Wildcats while attending Mogadore High School where he later became “Coach” to all who knew him. Paul’s legacy includes starting the Mogadore Bantam Youth Football Program (now Suburban Youth), Youth Baseball, and Boys and Girls Junior Pro Basketball teams. He coached the high school football and track teams for well over a decade, winning countless league titles and taking many athletes to State including the 1979 State Football Championships.

Those who knew Paul will recall his grandiose stories that got better every year, his ornery sense of humor, and his love of music and dancing with his beautiful wife Karen. The wonderful Murphy family Sundays at their cottage will forever be remembered by all who loved him. His leadership and dedication instilled the importance of hard work, family and community in all whose lives he touched. In addition to his own accomplishments, Paul’s legacy includes what he inspired others to achieve.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Mogadore Athletic Boosters.
