Paris Township will hold its spring cleanup from 8 a.m. to noon on May 1 at the township community center on Newton Falls Road. The cleanup is limited to Paris Township residents only, and participants must show ID or proof of residency.
All participants must be Covid-conscious, wear masks and maintain social distancing. Township trustees and employees, as well as volunteers, will be on hand to help residents unload their vehicles but will not do the entire job themselves, trustee Ed Samec cautioned.
They aren’t accepting tires, paint or batteries.
Grant for digital radios
The Paris Township Fire Department was recently awarded a $10,000 State Fire Marshal’s grant for digital radios. The radios will allow law enforcement agencies, the health department, Ohio Department of Natural Resources, the Ohio State highway Patrol and fire departments to communicate with each other.
The funds will enable the Paris VFD to outfit three of its six vehicles, said Fire Chief Derek Reed. Though the grant has been in place for seven years, this is the first year anyone in Portage County has been awarded funding.
Reed said he will continue applying for additional grant money until all six department vehicles and about a half dozen volunteer firefighters are outfitted.
