Open mics for the week of May 22

The week of May 22 brings us 11 different choices for our open mic entertainment. It doesn’t matter where you live in the Summit/Portage County area there is an open mic that you can attend. Come out and play or listen to this unique part of the area music scene.

We start off the week on Sunday with the open mic at the Outpost at 4962 state Route 43 in Brimfield, Ohio. This open mic is hosted by the R & D Duo and will start at 2 p.m. and go until 5:30 p.m. Come out and enjoy the party/picnic atmosphere with the outdoor stage.

In downtown Kent on Sunday, May 22 at the Euro Gyro found at 107 S. Depeyster St. The host is Nick Fleming. The action starts at 8 p.m. This open mic is for stand-up comedy and music (comedy seven minutes and music is three songs). There will be plenty of food and drink is available. Always a great night of music and laughs.

Also on Sunday we have a new open mic that was just added.  Come on out to the Bailey Road Tavern. Jesse Kisner AKA Hobo Jesco is the host. They have food and drink specials, patio seating, and a very chill vibe. The address is 2920 Bailey Rd., Cuyahoga Falls. This open mic starts at 9 p.m. for all the night owls out there and will go until 2:30 a.m. 

On Monday, the open mic will be taking place in the Highland Square area of Akron at The Matinee on 812 W. Market St. This open mic is hosted by Bert Stevens at will start  7:30 p.m. with signups beginning at 7 p.m.

On Tuesday, travel a little bit to the west to Akron (1947 W. Market St.) for the open mic night at
the Mercedes Tavern hosted by John Markovich. This event begins at 7 p.m. with signups at 6:30 p.m. Great atmosphere with good music and friends to meet or make.

Also, on Tuesday, is the open mic at Wolf Creek Tavern at 3044 Wadsworth Rd. in Norton.  Your hosts will be Eric and Linda from Blue Moondog.  The fun starts at 7 p.m. and the mics go off at 10 p.m. Then the acoustic open jam begins.

On Wednesday travel to 524 West Tuscarawas in Barberton. for the open mic at Block 7 with your hosts Hudson Run. The open mic is from 7 p.m. until 10 p.m.

Also on Wednesday, May 25, travel to downtown Kent for the open mic at the Venice Café located at 163 W. Erie St. Your host for the evening will be BC Hudson.

On Thursday at the Divine Restaurant found at 2752 Hudson Dr., Cuyahoga Falls is an open mic hosted by Landon Kearns. The fun starts at 8 p.m., Food, spirits and music are all available. Please check this one out.

Also on Thursday, at 584 W. Tuscarawas St. in Barberton. Head out to the open mic night at the Kave Coffee Bar, where it is youth and novice friendly. Your hosts are Christopher Haught and Hansen Risley. The open mic starts at 6:30 p.m. and goes until 8:30 p.m.

Finally, on Friday a new open mic to our group is the open mic at M&M Taphouse at 523 Tuscarawas St. in Barberton.  Your host for the evening is Mike Ryan and everything starts at 7 p.m. and goes until 10 p.m.


Host Spotlight

Christopher Haught has been playing guitar and singing for about 40 years. His major influences are B.B. King, Clapton, Page, Hendrix, Roy Clark, Chet Atkins, and Billy Gibbons. Christopher loves the Blues, Classic Rock, and old country. He currently plays guitar and sing with his band Hudson Run. They play Blues and Classic Rock. Christopher co- hosts the Kave Open Mic with Hansen Risley. She is an amazing young guitarist and vocalist. Hansen also sings with Hudson Run. This open mic is youth friendly and provides the local youth a place to highlight their skills and get help from more seasoned musicians who frequent Kave.

Hansen Risley, Christopher’s co-host is a Senior at Barberton High School. She sings in show choir and is a regular in the school musicals. She brings so much young talent to the open mic. She also plays solo shows at several local venues.
