Repair work is set to begin on the Newton Falls Road Bridge just east of Holcomb Road. The bridge was closed in early December 2023, and the county expects to complete repairs and reopen the bridge by this spring.
The Portage County Engineer’s Office has completed a repair plan and county crews will take on the project.
Plans to replace the bridge entirely are already in the works. County commissioners have approved a grant agreement secured by Portage County Engineer Larry Jenkins to fund 95% of the bridge replacement project.
Design planning for the bridge replacement is expected to begin in 2024, and construction would start in 2025 and conclude in 2026.
