Letter to the editor: Vote for Ravenna schools

I am writing to express my support for the upcoming Ravenna school levy, which is crucial for the continued growth and prosperity of the Ravenna community. Investing in our schools is not merely an expenditure; it is a strategic investment in our future economic development.

A strong education system is the cornerstone of a thriving economy. High-quality schools provide children with the skills and knowledge necessary to succeed in a competitive job market. Graduates from well-funded, well-supported schools are better prepared to enter the workforce, pursue higher education, and contribute to a dynamic and innovative economy.

In addition, strong schools attract businesses and families to our community. Companies looking to invest in new locations consider the quality of local schools as a key factor in their decision-making process. By ensuring that our schools are well-funded and capable of offering excellent educational opportunities, we make our community a more attractive place for business investment and growth.

This is a five-year operating levy to raise $3.25 million dollars per year. We have not passed a similar levy since 2005. The state has already placed Ravenna Schools on fiscal watch. Without funding, the school system could end up being taken over by the state, with the Ravenna community relinquishing local control.

We have a fine school system with great teachers. Our students have supported our community with over 4,000 hours of community service just in the past school year alone. It is time for us to support the students.

I urge my fellow community members to vote in favor of the school levy. By doing so, we are not just funding education; we are investing in the future of our economy and the well-being of our entire community.
