Job fair in Mantua welcomes anybody who wants to work

Want to work? Mark your calendar for a Career Fair set for 2:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. Oct. 18 at Crestwood Local Schools Central Office, 10880 John Edwards Drive in Mantua.

Participating employers include (but are not limited to) Compass Packaging, Mantaline, the Mantua-Shalersville Fire Department, DSI Bulk Transport, Portage County Board of Developmental Disabilities, Advanced Rehabilitation & Health Specialists, Hometown Bank, Hattie Larlham, UH Portage Medical Center, F&S Auto & Towing, Polychem Dispersions, Cleveland Steel Container, and Maplewood Career Center.

Also present will be Kent Displays, Paris Healthcare Linen Services, MAC LTT, Viking Forge, The Atrium at Anna Maria, Camp Asbury, Eric Does Data, TLX, Premier Bank, The Salvation Army, Longmeadow Health Care Community, Ohio Means Jobs of Portage County, Selas Heat Technology, and Davey Tree.

Some employers are offering on-the-spot interviews and same-day hiring, so participants are encouraged to bring their resumes and dress for success.

Though some employers are not “felony-friendly,” the Career Fair will include multiple companies that are, JFS employer services liaison Patricia Wade said.

These include: Paris Healthcare Linen Services, Mantaline, Viking Forge, F&S Auto & Towing, Polychem Dispersions, Cleveland Steel Containers, and Selas Heat & Technology.

Davey Tree reviews applicants’ records on a case-by-case basis and MAC LTT looks back seven years, she said.

Also, depending on the employer and the position available, applicants may not need to be 18 years old, she said.

“Most of these positions don’t require certain education or certification,” Wade said. “Individuals who come with a desire to work will all be considered. There is something for everyone.”

OhioMeansJobs Portage County (the workforce development division of Portage County Job & Family Services) is partnering with Portage Development Board and Crestwood Schools to present the event.

Students will be educated about jobs in their own back yards from noon to 2:15 p.m., when doors will open to the public.
