In August 2021, one thousand incoming Kent State students, faculty, and staff came together for the Kent State Day of Service to begin threading the fabric of a new Community Engaged Learning (CEL) initiative – The Social Justice Quilting Project. Derf Backderf: An Author’s Perspective on Book Challenges

Award winning local cartoonist and graphic novelist Derf Backderf kicks off Free Speech September at the Kent Free Library by sharing his experience of having his book, My Friend Dahmer, banned. Backderf is an outspoken critic of book bans and challenges. Space is limited; pick up a ticket at the 2nd floor Information Desk starting at 6:30 pm. Adults 18+.
