Join us to watch the award winning film adaptation of Kathryn Stockett’s best selling 2009 novel The Help in celebration of Black History month. Limited to 30 people, free and open to the public.
Kathryn Stockett’s award winning novel takes place in Jackson, Mississippi in 1963 and tells the story of a young white aspiring journalist, Eugenia “Skeeter” Phelan, and her relationship with two black maids, Aibileen Clark and Minny Jackson. In her attempt to become a legitimate journalist, Skeeter writes a tell-all book about work as a black maid in the South, exposing the racism black maids face as they work for white families. Stockett’s debut bestselling novel was the basis for the Academy Award-winning film—a timeless and universal story about the lines we abide by, and the ones we don’t—nominated as one of America’s best-loved novels by PBS’s The Great American Read.
