Edinburg trustees are considering scrapping the township’s recycling contract with the Portage County Solid Waste Management District, which is in the process of raising rates, though nothing has been decided yet.
“We’re having trouble justifying the recycling,” Trustee Chris Diehl said. “Portage County is going to be like 10 times the price it was before, and there’s no way we’re going to be able to do that.”
Trustees have been unable to get affordable prices from independent contractors, “so it might be one these programs that falls by the wayside,” Diehl said.
Trustees are hoping to reopen Edinburg’s town hall in a Covid-conscious kind of way. Wrestling with sometimes confusing and often conflicting guidelines, the trustees are holding off on the re-opening until they have consulted with the Portage County health department.
Meanwhile, the town hall needs some roofing work, so trustees are working with local contractors to get a good price.
