County roundup: New Deerfield Fire Station blueprints are in, plus news from Paris and Rootstown

Deerfield

The Deerfield Township Trustees recently received the blueprints and engineering drawings for the addition to the township fire department.

“We’re going to submit the blueprints and engineering drawings to contractors for bids,” township Vice Chair Ed Dean said.

The addition will include two bathrooms, each with its own shower, and a big utility room with laundry facilities and a kitchenette area.

“It’s definitely going to get done,” Dean said, “but we still have to go before the Portage County Building Department to get the final approval. It’s just a matter of getting a few details worked out.”

Paris

Paris Township’s Third Annual Car Show will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, July 20 at the Shearer Community Center at 9355 Newton Falls Rd. All makes, models and years are welcome.

The car show is a fundraiser for the Shearer Community Center and the Paris Township Fire Department. The emcee will be John Rinaldi. There will be food, including pulled pork sandwiches; music by disc jockey Boogiemen; and raffles, door prizes and trophies awarded. Add to your Dash Plaque collection. Paris Township fire trucks will be on display.

There is no registration fee. Donations are appreciated and will benefit the fire department. For more information, call township Trustee Ed Samec at 330-389-1313.

Rootstown

The paving of the driveway in Rootstown Community Park from Cook Road to Case Avenue is done. The project will be paid for by a $120,000 grant the township received from the state.

The Rootstown Township Trustees put a moratorium on recreational marijuana dispensaries in the township for six months.

“The zoning commission will look at it, and we’ll see what its recommendations are,” township Chair Dave McIntyre said.

The Rootstown Sports Boosters will have a golf outing Sunday, Aug. 4 at Sunny Hill Golf Course at 3734 Sunnybrook Rd. in Brimfield. The cost is $400 per team. Tee time is 8 a.m. To register, contact Rootstown Athletic Director Keith Waesch at 330-325-7911.
