Garrettsville

The 13th Annual G-Men Football 4-Person Golf Scramble Fundraiser will be Friday, July 25 at Sugar Bush Golf Course at 11186 state Route 88 in Garrettsville.

There will be a shotgun start at 9 a.m. A $400 cash prize will be awarded for lowest score. Other prizes: Longest Drive, Longest Putt and Closest to Pin.

The fees are $100 per person and $400 per team (includes three drink tickets per person and no outside alcoholic beverages allowed).

You can sponsor a hole for $100.

A Cleveland Boat Cruise/JACK Casino Trip presented by Garrettsville Summerfest will be Thursday, July 31.

This luncheon cruise will be aboard the Lady Caroline, a four-deck, 120-foot-long ship featuring more than 15,000 square feet. Three of the decks are fully enclosed and climate controlled. The sky deck features a covered bar and open views for sweeping panoramic sightseeing.

You’ll cruise under historic bridges and experience the breathtaking view of downtown Cleveland’s skyline. The cruise will include a chef-created buffet luncheon. After the cruise, you will enjoy four hours of gaming at the JACK Cleveland casino.

The cost is $125 per person (includes lunch, tax, tip and a $10 free gaming comp). Money is due July 24. The bus departs SkyLane Bowling at 9:45 a.m. To reserve a seat, call or text Aaron King at 330-524-2646.


Garrettsville’s second cruise-in of the summer was held recently at SkyLane Bowling. Awards were presented.

“It was a good turnout,” Mayor Rick Patrick said. “A couple hundred people showed up.”

The next cruise-in, again at SkyLane Bowling, will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday, July 26. The Blue Cadillac band will provide live entertainment.

Village of Mantua

The Portage County District Library Bookmobile will be at Buchert Park at 4808 E. High St. in the village of Mantua at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 2. Check out new books, return old ones, meet new friends and participate in library programs! While you are there, stop by the Buchert Lodge to see what’s happening at the Crestwood Community Center.


“Yoga on the Green” will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 5 and 6 p.m. Tuesday, July 15. This is an all-levels class, so whether you’ve practiced for decades or never a day in your life, all are welcome. Donations will be accepted but not expected. Dress comfortably and bring either a mat, blanket or towel. Be sure to also bring water; hydration is important! Join in to connect breath and movement for overall better health. Plan on arriving 5-10 minutes early to fill out a brief liability waiver. Sign once and you’re good for the season.


A farmers and makers market will be held at 4 p.m. Friday, July 11 and Friday, July 25 in the parking lot and basement of the Granary Building at 4690 E. Prospect St. Get fresh food and homemade goods, hang out with friends and check out the vendors.

Middlefield Bank will host Customer Appreciation Day from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, July 11 at its location of 10691 Main St. Enjoy hot dogs, chips, cookies and water. Bank items will be given away, and there will be a drawing for a gift basket!

Mantua Township

A fundraising dinner for the Mantua Restoration Society will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, July 11 in the Mantua Center School gymnasium at 11741 Mantua Center Rd. in Mantua Township.

Dine in or carry out. No charge, but donations accepted. Consider giving what you’d pay for a comparable meal at a restaurant plus tip.

A variety of entrées will be provided, including one supplied each month from Main Street on the River. There will be several salads and a variety of desserts, including homemade pies. All food is home-cooked and donated by the MaRSI members – soups, casseroles, cornbread, salads and desserts. Light piano music will be provided by Steve Stork.

This is not a free community meal but rather a fundraiser for the society that helps provide funds for the restoration and upkeep of Mantua Center’s historic buildings and sites. For more information, contact Susan Pollard at 330-586-8337.

Freedom

The annual Freedom Township Picnic will be from 11:30 a.m. to approximately 3 p.m. Sunday, July 20 directly in front of Town Hall at 8966 state Route 700. Everybody should bring a dish to pass. The First Congregational Church of Freedom will provide hamburgers and hot dogs, and the township will furnish chicken and drinks, all complimentary. A band will provide entertainment.
