Atwater
The Atwater Township Clean-Up Days will be from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday, May 2 and 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 3 in the Town Hall parking lot at 1219 State Route 183.
Included will be document shredding (until those bins are full). Eight light-duty tires will be accepted for 50 cents per tire. Items that will not be accepted are electronics, liquids of any kind and food garbage. This is for Atwater residents only; a picture ID will be required. Atwater will hold its Plant Exchange from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 17 at the Old School Park pavilion on Waterloo Road. You can bring a plant or take a plant. Both outdoor and indoor plants are welcome. No money will be exchanged. For more information, visit atwatertwp.net.
The Memorial Day Parade, which will take place Monday, May 26, is still taking entries. Entries do not have to pre-register, but should you wish to be entered into the judging of the various categories (awards will be given for first and second places), call Peggy T. at 330-603-5227.
Atwater will again host the Summer Food Program from Monday, June 9 to Friday, Aug. 15 at Old School Park on Waterloo Road, where lunches will be served from noon to 1 p.m. Monday-Friday. Watch for further details in an upcoming flyer that will be posted at atwatertwp.net and facebook.com/atvatertwp. This event is sponsored by the Portage County Community Action Council.
The township is in the process of upgrading the gravel Town Hall parking lot to a chipped-and-sealed surface. The first phase has been completed, with the final stage to be done in the coming weeks.
Atwater was graciously gifted one of the Atwater Township blankets that the Atwater Historical Society made. These blankets have pictures depicting many of the township’s historical buildings. The blanket that the township received was returned to the township by the James and Holb families, who lived for many years in the Atwater community. The township plans on hanging this gift in Town Hall at 1219 State Route 183.

Suffield
Suffield’s annual Memorial Day Parade will step off at 10 a.m. Monday, May 26. The parade will begin at Catherine Street and conclude at Suffield Elementary School at 1128 Waterloo Rd. Lineup starts at 9 a.m. at Catherine Street. A ceremony will take place at the school’s flagpole following the parade.
The Suffield Township Trustees’ fifth annual car show will take place from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday, June 8 at the township offices at 1256 Waterloo Rd. Three food vendors will be there, including the Duma Ranch Burger Dispatch and the Kettle Corn trailer. A disc jockey will offer entertainment.
The township trustees are considering purchasing a brand-new fire truck for the fire department. The fire department has had the current truck since 1994.
The township trustees are considering putting a roundabout where Trares Road intersects with state Route 43.
The Suffield League held an Easter egg hunt at Wingfoot State Park on April 13, which was Palm Sunday.
“It was tremendous,” township Chair Jeff Eldreth said. “There were more than 200 kids participating.”
Suffield Secure Storage recently opened at 68 Waterloo Rd.
Brimfield
A chair yoga class will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 1 at the Brimfield Community Center at 4538 Edson Rd. Join SHINE Ohio to discover the benefits of yoga. There will be a warbler hike at 9:30 a.m. Sunday, May 4 at Brimfield Lions Park at 4484 Edson Rd. Join in for a guided hike to spot and learn about all the vibrant warblers that pass through Ohio. Discover their unique songs, migration patterns and habitats by exploring prime bird-watching areas. This program is for bird enthusiasts of all levels.
A “Timeless Memories Scrapbooking” class will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, May 8 at the Brimfield Branch Library at 4286 Kelso Dr. Join a creative memories independent advisor to explore new techniques and collaborate with others. Participants will complete the two National Scrapbook Day double page layouts This program is open to all skill levels. Sue Fields’ Clean-Up and Flea Market will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 17 at Brimfield Lions Park at 4484 Edson Rd. Brimfield residents can drop off unwanted scrap metal, e-waste and large items. New this year is that you can reserve a flea market spot and give your items a second chance. Brimfield Parks & Recreation is offering four day camps for kids this summer at the Brimfield Community Center at 4538 Edson Rd. Each camp features nature-themed games and activities. Touch-A-Truck will take place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, June 21 at Brimfield Lions Park at 4484 Edson Rd. This free, family-friendly event will feature fire trucks, police cruisers, construction vehicles, inflatables, games, face painting, costumed characters and more. Local food trucks will be on site.
Let’s Glow, Brimfield will be held Saturday, July 26. The event will feature glow attractions, a silent disco, designing shirts and an outdoor movie.
Swamptown Fest will take place Saturday, Sept. 13. It will feature bands, food vendors, arts and crafts vendors, a chainsaw carver, an axe trailer, inflatables/attractions and contests.
Here’s a look at some ongoing construction projects around the township:
- Site work is continuing at the Woodland Reserve condominium development at 5036 State Route 43. The roadway is now in, and several homes are now permitted. Also, the township trustees are working on a TIF to run water down state Route 43.
- The VA Cancer Imaging & Infusion Center interior construction and site work are continuing.
- A contractor has started the framing for Joe’s BBQ.
- Grading and excavating work has begun for the Discount Drug Mart in front of Brimfield Elementary School.
- The construction of Jarrett Fleet Services at 521 Tallmadge Rd. has been completed.
- Lewis Landscaping has completed the baseball field renovations.
- Helmling has begun the demolition of the building at McGuire Park.
The township trustees are working on a partnership with University Hospitals to bring no-cost senior fitness programs to the parks & recreation department.
Mogadore
Local company Fitting Tax & Financial will sponsor two annual events simultaneously, Shred Day and Feed Our Community, from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 3 in the parking lot of the Mogadore Police Department.
“You can bring all of your old tax returns and financial documents, and they’ll dispose of them safely and securely,” Mayor Mike Rick said. “They’ll also accept non-perishable food items to be donated to a charity.”
Mogadore’s annual Spring Limb and Branch Pick-Up will be from Monday, May 5 to Friday, May 9. Residents are asked to wait until after Wednesday, April 30 to place their limbs and branches on the curb (devil strip) and to make sure they are not in the street.

A brand-new defibrillator was hung at both Moyer Field and Old School Park.
