Brimfield Township broke ground on an $8.2 million fire station that trustees hope will get them through the foreseeable future. The project is underway near the intersection of state Routes 18 and 43.
The structure is being built with a low-interest USDA loan, Trustee Sue Fields said.
Trustees foresaw the need for a new fire station 20 years ago, but had no money to build one, Fields said.
Since then, amid rapid growth, “we went from a volunteer fire station to a fully staffed 24/7 fire station. Hopefully, what we’re doing now will last us 30 years or more,” she said.
